Building a better Golden Valley

I’m committed to creating more mixed-use spaces that combine shops and housing, easing supply challenges for residents and entrepreneurs. By connecting our roads, bike paths, and sidewalks, we can make it easier to navigate the city without a car and ensure there are vibrant destinations to enjoy.

Key ISSUES I’LL FOCUS ON TO STRENGTHEN OUR CITY

A Vibrant Downtown
Golden VAlley

  • Partner with the new strip mall owner to go beyond a basic upgrade—adding condos above shops to increase housing supply

  • Place parking garages on the edges of shopping areas to maximize space and accessibility

  • Continue the planning to include a new fire station and police department in the municipal revamp, giving first responders the modern facilities they need to serve effectively

A city to support and empower our small business owners and empower

  • Repurpose existing hardscapes like partially rented out office buildings or abandoned spaces for new restaurants, boutiques, or community spaces

  • Pass a prevailing wage law to protect people who work in Golden Valley from wage theft

  • Encourage LEED certification for all new commercial buildings

Roads, Paths & Sidewalks

  • Make roads safer for pedestrians by using smart design to slow cars down through narrowing right of ways and planting trees along the road

  • Extend our existing “sidewalks to nowhere” especially along major commute routes to our schools

  • Improve bike paths so we can reduce car dependency in the city

  • Reduce road widths to add rain gardens with salt neutralizing plants to protect our watersheds

PARKS

  • Continue to fund our parks department and employees so they can maintain our beautiful local green spaces and park services

  • Incorporate a dog park within the city for our furry friends and neighbors to frequent and build friendships

  • Work with local organizations to protect our watersheds and lakes from invasive species so they are healthy for all users

HOUSING

  • Create a healthy housing supply for people at all stages of their life

  • Build more attainable housing by allowing smaller lots in areas of the city and town homes with mix of multi level floor plans and single level floor plans

  • Encourage addition of condos over apartments so we have owners in the city and new buyers can start to build equity in the city

Ensuring everyone has easy access to essential city services

  • Redo the city webpage so we have something easily navigated to find current information, city council notes, decisions made and the studies performed, pay our bills online and make sure everyone gets access to information

  • Improve water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure to meet needs of growing population and changing climate

  • Invest in our first responders so they have the necessary facilities to best serve the community

  • Encourage new internet providers to enter the market

  • Implement single hauler trash program to reduce costs for residents and reduce disruptions on roads all week with different haulers for different services

  • Build an emergency response system for events like the water tower valve failure to alert residents of problems and all clear situations
